How the score breaks down

The overall score is the weighted average of these factors. Scoring rules

  • Accident record40% of score

    88 out of 100, Excellent

No accident or Hull lossAn accident in which an aircraft is destroyed or damaged beyond economic repair. People may or may not be hurt.More in the glossary for World2fly in the Aviation Safety Network data or AeroInside since its first flight from Madrid to Punta Cana in June 2021. About 10,700 flights in five years is a clean but short and small record, so it stays below the top band.

  • Regulatory oversight20% of score

    90 out of 100, Excellent

Spanish air operator certificate under EASA rules, Spain in FAA IASAThe US FAA's check of whether a country's aviation regulator meets ICAO standards. Category 1 means it does; Category 2 means it does not.More in the glossary Category 1 (April 2025 list), and World2fly is on IATA's member list and IATA's IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary registry, which shows a 2025 audit valid until 4 September 2027. That matches our yardstick for EU airlines with IOSA.

  • Fleet15% of score

    78 out of 100, Good

Three A350-900s delivered from 2021 to 2023, the first straight from Airbus's Toulouse line, and four A330-300s bought second-hand (the first had flown for Air Europa, Garuda and XL Airways). Two A330neos, ordered in January 2026, will replace two of the older jets.

  • Serious incidents15% of score

    78 out of 100, Good

On 10 January 2026 an A330-300 rejected take-off at Holguín, Cuba, after a tyre burst and debris damaged the left engine and main gear; Cuba's authority opened an investigation. Smaller events: a tyre-pressure PAN at Prague (December 2023) and an A350 grounded on Bonaire by an air-conditioning fault (December 2025).

  • Operating environment10% of score

    80 out of 100, Good

Long-haul flights from Madrid to the Caribbean, Colombia, Argentina, Mauritius, Zanzibar and Uzbekistan, plus winter charters from Prague and Poland to Cuba and South-East Asia. Caribbean hurricanes and Cuba's 2026 fuel and power shortages make parts of the network harder; World2fly left Cuba in May 2026.

Is World2fly safe?

Yes. World2fly has not had an accident since its first flight in June 2021, it holds IATA's IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary safety audit, and it flies under the same European rules as Air Europa and Iberia, the two Madrid airlines it competes with on Caribbean routes. Its newest jets are three Airbus A350-900s less than six years old. The catch is a short track record and one event that got close to serious: in January 2026 a burst tyre sent debris into an engine during take-off in Cuba. We score World2fly 85, level with Iberia (85) and one point below Air Europa (86).

A holiday airline that also flies for others

World2fly was created by W2M, the travel company of the Iberostar hotel group, to fly its customers to Punta Cana, Cancún and Havana. Five years on it has carried 3.5 million passengers on 10,700 flights and added Cali, Cartagena de Indias, Rosario in Argentina, Mauritius, Zanzibar and Uzbekistan. Flights carry the code 2W and the call sign BLUE WORLD on Spanish-registered (EC-) aircraft.

Much of the work is for other companies. Since November 2023 one A350 has flown Corendon's Amsterdam–Curaçao–Bonaire route under a two-year deal, still with World2fly crews; air traffic control sees it under Corendon's call sign. An A330 flew winter charters for the Polish tour operator Rainbow Tours from Katowice and Poznań in 2025–26. Under our rule for wet leases, events on those flights count here, because World2fly's certificate and crews fly them. Corendon Dutch Airlines describes the same A350 from the other side.

Lisbon is different. World2fly Portugal holds its own Portuguese certificate, sells flights under the code 3P and flew an A330 for TAP in 2026. Its record is not counted on this page.

The tyre burst at Holguín

On 10 January 2026, A330-300 EC-OND was accelerating for take-off at Holguín in eastern Cuba, bound for Prague, when a tyre burst. Debris went into the left engine, which failed and showed flames, and the crew rejected the take-off and taxied back to the stand. No one was hurt. The airline first spoke of a bird strike; Cuba's aviation authority later reported significant damage to the left main landing gear and the left engine and opened an investigation. Passengers waited three days before a hired A330 flew them home.

A rejected take-off at speed with an engine on fire is the kind of event pilots train for, and this one ended well. It is still the most serious thing on World2fly's record, and the investigation has not said why the tyre failed. Under ICAO rules, damage limited to one engine and the tyres does not make an accident, and The Aviation Herald lists it as an incident; Cuba has not said whether the damage to the main gear changes that. Until it does, the event weighs on the incident score, not the accident score.

Everything else we found is small. In December 2023 an A350 arriving from Phu Quoc declared a PAN at Prague over low pressure in a nose-wheel tyre and stopped on the runway. In December 2025 the Corendon A350 was grounded overnight on Bonaire by an air-conditioning fault, leaving 422 passengers in hotels.

Two kinds of jet

The A350s are the strong part of the fleet. The first came straight off Airbus's Toulouse line in 2021 and the third arrived in June 2023; each seats up to 432 passengers. The four A330-300s are older and came second-hand: the first had already flown for Air Europa, Garuda and XL Airways before it joined in January 2021. In January 2026 World2fly ordered two A330neos for 2028 and 2030 to replace two of them, and in September 2026 it signed an Airbus component and maintenance support deal for the whole fleet. Fleet scores 78, near Air Europa's mixed 787 and 737 fleet.

Who checks World2fly?

Spain's aviation safety agency (AESA) issues the certificate under EASA rules, and Spain holds the FAA's FAA IASAThe US FAA's check of whether a country's aviation regulator meets ICAO standards. Category 1 means it does; Category 2 means it does not.More in the glossary rating. World2fly is an IATA member, which requires the IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary audit, and IATA's IOSA registry shows the 2025 renewal, valid until 4 September 2027. That is the same level as the large Spanish airlines, so oversight scores 90.

Before you fly World2fly

  • Check who flies a package holiday. Tour operators in Spain, Czechia, Poland and the Netherlands sell World2fly seats under their own names; the operator line on the booking shows whether World2fly's Spanish or Portuguese company flies it.
  • Pack for a long delay on island routes. With seven widebodies and few spare aircraft, a fault far from Madrid can mean a night or more in a hotel, as passengers in Holguín and Bonaire found.
  • For Cuba, look at other airlines. World2fly stopped flying to Havana in May 2026 amid the island's fuel and power shortages; Air Europa is now the only Spanish airline still flying there.

How we scored it

The accident record (88) and IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary-backed oversight (90) carry the score. The fleet (78) mixes young A350s with older A330s, incidents (78) reflect the Holguín tyre burst, and the long-haul leisure network scores 80. Overall 85.

Questions people ask

Who owns World2fly?

World2fly belongs to W2M (World2Meet), the travel business of the Mallorca-based Iberostar hotel group. It was set up in 2020 and began flying in June 2021, mainly to sell Caribbean holidays from Spain, and has made a profit every year since, with €11 million in 2025.

Why am I flying World2fly on a Corendon or Rainbow Tours booking?

World2fly hires out aircraft with its own pilots and cabin crew. One A350 has flown Corendon's Amsterdam–Curaçao–Bonaire route since November 2023, and an A330 flew Rainbow Tours' winter charters from Poland in 2025–26. On those flights World2fly's certificate and crews apply, so the safety record on this page is the relevant one.

Is World2fly the same airline as World2fly Portugal?

No. World2fly Portugal (code 3P) holds its own Portuguese certificate and flies from Lisbon to Cancún, Punta Cana, Jamaica and Zanzibar, and in 2026 it flew an A330 for TAP. It shares the brand and holds its own IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary, which runs to the same date, but its events, such as the September 2024 landing-gear emergency at Lisbon, are not counted here.

What happened to the World2fly flight in Holguín in January 2026?

An A330-300 bound for Prague burst a tyre while accelerating for take-off; debris went into the left engine, which caught fire, and the crew rejected the take-off and returned to the apron. No one was hurt. Passengers waited three days for a replacement jet, and Cuba's aviation authority is investigating.
