Cities

We score cities on six factors. Violent crime, based on police homicide and assault data, counts for 25%. Theft and scams count for 20%, and walking at night, traffic deaths, and health and air quality (annual PM2.5, water, emergency care) for 15% each. Natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods and heat make up the last 10%. Every page links its sources. Crime is usually concentrated in a few districts, so read the advice on where to stay as well as the score.
