Is Tubi safe?

Tubi

Tubi is a safe way to watch free films and TV, and it is better for children than most free services, with Kids Accounts, a PIN and no ad profiles for kids. Adults pay with data instead. The policy says Tubi sells or shares identifiers, age, gender and viewing activity with ad companies.

How the score breaks down

The overall score is the weighted average of these factors. Scoring rules

  • Privacy30% of score

    42 out of 100, Weak

Apple's label lists only identifiers and usage data as used to track you, but Tubi's July 2026 policy says it sells or shares identifiers, contact data, age, gender and viewing activity with ad companies, and adds data bought from commercial sources. We score the broader policy.

  • Security30% of score

    57 out of 100, Fair

We found no breach of Tubi data. Most viewers never give a card, but we found no two-step login, email sign-up accepts a 6-character password, and we found no public bug bounty or security.txt for Tubi or Fox.

  • Transparency and control15% of score

    62 out of 100, Fair

You can watch as a guest, Tubi honours the Global Privacy Control signal, and accounts can be deleted in settings or through online access, deletion and correction forms. Tubi ignores Do Not Track, and registration asks for birthday and gender.

  • Scams and harmful content15% of score

    75 out of 100, Good

Licensed films and TV, with no messaging between viewers. Kids Accounts have their own age rating, watch history and an optional 4-digit PIN; Kids Mode needs a password, PIN or age check to exit, and Tubi says kids get no ad profile.

  • Regulatory record10% of score

    85 out of 100, Excellent

We found no fine or order from a privacy or consumer regulator that names Tubi. A Video Privacy Protection Act class action ended in a $19.99 million settlement in 2024 without an admission; private suits count only as context.

Is Tubi safe?

Yes, for most people. Tubi is Fox Corporation's free streaming service: films, TV series and live channels paid for by ads, with no subscription and no card. Fox is also buying Roku: Roku's stockholders approved the deal in October 2026, and it is expected to close in the first half of 2027. Nobody can message you through Tubi. We score it 59/100, above Pluto TV (55) and Peacock (55), mainly because its children's features are stronger.

The trade-off is data. Tubi's privacy policy is frank that it sells or shares a lot of what it learns about you with advertising companies, and the account has no second login step.

What Tubi does with your data

Tubi's App Store label looks light. Only identifiers and usage data appear under "Data Used to Track You". Contact info, user content, search history, diagnostics and other data are collected and linked to your identity, but not listed as tracking. Google Play lists device IDs, email, user IDs and app activity as shared with other companies for advertising or marketing.

The privacy policy, effective 1 July 2026, goes further. Its California notice lists the categories that Tubi "sold" or "shared" with advertising technology companies and advertisers for targeted ads: identifiers such as name, IP address, email and device IDs, contact and financial information, age and gender, purchase history, your activity in Tubi's apps, and rough location. The same categories go to other Fox companies for marketing. Tubi also says it may add information from "commercially available sources", social media services and ad companies. Some Tubi apps carry Nielsen's measurement software for TV ratings.

Because the policy discloses more than the label, we score privacy on the policy. There are real controls. Tubi treats a Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out of sale and sharing, and it publishes how it handles requests: in 2025 its median response time was 14 days. It does not respond to Do Not Track.

Tubi for children

This is Tubi's strongest area, and it is better than most free services. A parent signs in and creates a Kids Account. Each one has its own age rating (Younger Kids or Older Kids), its own watch history and an optional 4-digit PIN that stops a child from switching back to an adult account. Raising the rating needs the parent's password. Kids Accounts only appear on a device while the parent is signed in, so logging out hides them.

Kids Mode is the quick option for a borrowed phone or TV. One tap switches Tubi to its family library without any account. Leaving it needs a password, PIN or an age check.

Tubi says it does not build ad profiles from Kids Accounts or Kids Mode. Children still see ads, but chosen from the content setting and what they are watching. The policy says identifiers collected in these areas are used only for internal operations. Children under 13 who try to register are sent to Kids Mode instead, and their details are not kept.

The gap is the main library. Tubi has a large horror and thriller catalogue, and a child on an adult or guest profile can find it. Use a Kids Account or Kids Mode every time.

Account security

We found no reported breach of Tubi accounts, and most viewers never store a card. Protection is still basic. Tubi's help centre describes sign-up with Google, Facebook, Apple or email, and an email account needs a password of only 6 characters. We found no two-step login and no public bug bounty for Tubi or Fox on HackerOne. Signing in with Apple or Google lets you use their two-step protection.

The viewing data settlement

In a class action under the US Video Privacy Protection Act, viewers alleged that Tubi passed what they watched to third parties without consent. A federal judge refused Tubi's request to move the case to arbitration in February 2024. Tubi then agreed to pay $19.99 million to users from June 2021 to August 2024, without admitting wrongdoing, according to Cord Cutters News. A private settlement is not a regulator's finding, so it is context only in our score. We found no fine or order from the FTC, a state attorney general or a data protection authority that names Tubi.

How to use Tubi safely

  1. Give each child a Kids Account and set a PIN, or switch to Kids Mode before handing over a device.
  2. Sign in with Apple or Google, or use a long, unique password if you register by email.
  3. Turn on Global Privacy Control, or use Tubi's Your Privacy Choices link, to opt out of sale and sharing.
  4. Refuse the tracking prompt on iPhone, and reset your advertising ID on Android.
  5. Ignore anyone who asks you to pay for Tubi. If you watch on a TV, check the privacy settings of the TV platform too, such as Roku.

How we scored it

The regulatory record (85) is Tubi's highest factor, since no regulator has fined or ordered it. Privacy (42) is the lowest, because the policy sells or shares profile and viewing data with ad companies. Scams and harmful content (75) is helped by Kids Accounts and Kids Mode, and security (57) is held back by no two-step login and a short minimum password.

Questions people ask

Is Tubi safe for kids?

Yes, if you use Tubi's kids features. A Kids Account has its own age rating, watch history and an optional 4-digit PIN, and Kids Mode works without an account but needs a password, PIN or age check to leave. Without them, children can browse the full library, which includes horror and adult-oriented films.

Is Tubi legal and free?

Yes. Tubi is owned by Fox Corporation and streams licensed films and shows paid for by ads. It never asks for a card. Sites or apps that charge for Tubi, or ask for payment details to watch it, are not Tubi.

Does Tubi sell your data?

Its California privacy notice says Tubi sells or shares identifiers, contact data, age, gender, purchase history, browsing activity and rough location with ad companies for targeted advertising, as the state law defines those terms. You can opt out with the Your Privacy Choices link or by turning on Global Privacy Control in your browser.

Do you need an account to watch Tubi?

No. You can watch as a guest. An account saves your watch list and progress across devices, and Tubi lets you sign up with Google, Facebook, Apple or email. Registering by email asks for your name, birthday and gender.

What was the Tubi privacy settlement about?

Viewers alleged in a class action under the Video Privacy Protection Act that Tubi shared what they watched with third parties without consent. Tubi agreed in 2024 to pay $19.99 million to users from June 2021 to August 2024, without admitting wrongdoing. The claim deadline was 28 November 2024.
