Is Aero Nomad Airlines safe?
Aero Nomad Airlines
The Bishkek airline has had no accident since it began flying in 2021. It loses points for a small fleet of Airbus jets built in 1998 and 2000, a wrong-runway line-up at Lahore in 2022, several technical returns and long delays, no IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary audit, and a regulator that left the EU blacklist only in June 2026.

How the score breaks down
The overall score is the weighted average of these factors. Scoring rules
Accident record40% of score
85 out of 100, ExcellentNo accident, fatal or otherwise, since Aero Nomad began flying in 2021 (no Aviation Safety Network record, no MAK accident investigation, to October 2026). The record is about five years long on a small fleet, so it counts for less than a long clean record.
Regulatory oversight20% of score
57 out of 100, FairKyrgyz airlines were on the EU Air Safety ListThe European Commission's list of airlines banned or restricted from flying in EU airspace because they do not meet international safety standards.More in the glossary from 2006 until 8 June 2026. Kyrgyzstan is not on the FAA IASAThe US FAA's check of whether a country's aviation regulator meets ICAO standards. Category 1 means it does; Category 2 means it does not.More in the glossary list, and Aero Nomad is not an IATA member and was not on the IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary registry on 28 October 2026. Scored from Kazakhstan's 72, minus 10 for the recent EU ban and 5 for no IOSA. ICAO found no critical issues in October 2026.
Fleet15% of score
45 out of 100, WeakKyrgyzstan's aircraft register listed three Aero Nomad aircraft in July 2026, two Airbus A320s built in 1998 and an A330 built in 2000, an average age of 26.3 years (Akchabar). The A320 is Fly-by-wireA flight control system in which the pilot's inputs go to computers, which then move the control surfaces. Many such systems also stop unsafe manoeuvres.More in the glossary, but these are early models that flew for other airlines first.
Serious incidents15% of score
58 out of 100, FairPakistan's investigators classed a 5 June 2022 TCAS alert near Peshawar with a British Airways 777 as a serious incident: the 777's descent rate was the main cause, a stale altimeter setting sent by the A320's transponder contributed. On 21 June 2022 the same jet lined up on a closed runway at Lahore (AeroInside). Technical returns in 2022 and 2025.
Operating environment10% of score
50 out of 100, WeakMoscow Vnukovo is the main foreign route, under EASA's Russia bulletin to January 2027 (drone attacks, GNSS jamming). Flights to India and Pakistan were cancelled when Pakistan closed its airspace in May 2025. Osh has winter fog, and Bishkek and Osh sit near high mountains.
Is Aero Nomad Airlines safe?
It has a clean accident record, but a short one, and the rest of the picture is weak. Aero Nomad has flown since 2021 without an accident. Against that, it flies three jets with an average age of about 26 years, it has had a run of technical returns and long delays, one of its A320s lined up on a closed runway at Lahore in 2022, and it has no IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary audit. Until June 2026 every Kyrgyz airline was on the EU's safety blacklist. We score it 66, above Avia Traffic Company (63), whose 2015 Hull lossAn accident in which an aircraft is destroyed or damaged beyond economic repair. People may or may not be hurt.More in the glossary weighs on its longer record, and below Somon Air (73), which has IOSA. Our confidence is low because little is published about the airline.
A small fleet of 1990s jets
Kyrgyzstan's state aircraft register, as summarised by Akchabar in July 2026 and unchanged in September, listed three aircraft for Aero Nomad: two Airbus A320s built in 1998 and an Airbus A330 built in 2000. The average age was 26.3 years. All three had flown for other airlines first, among them TACA, Cubana, Sichuan Airlines, Onur Air and Saudia. The A330, announced in 2023 for longer routes to Southeast Asia, joined the register in July 2025.
Age alone does not make an aircraft unsafe; heavy checks and replaced parts matter more. But a fleet this old needs more maintenance, and with only three aircraft there is no spare when one breaks. That shows in the airline's delays: in June 2024 a Moscow–Osh flight sat at Vnukovo overnight while a replacement jet that never came was awaited, and in November 2025 about 180 passengers waited three days at Phu Quoc in Vietnam while a technical fault was fixed. The airline's director said at the time that "the plane takes off only after a complete check of all systems". That is the right order of priorities, but the fleet scores 45.
What happened in Pakistan in 2022?
Two separate events in June 2022 involved the same A320, EX-32009. On 5 June, flight ANK4506 was climbing out of Islamabad for Bishkek when its collision-avoidance system (TCAS) told the crew to descend, because a British Airways 777 coming the other way was descending fast towards its level. The crew followed the alert, and the two aircraft stayed 1,400 feet and 5 nautical miles apart, so standard separation was never lost. Pakistan's Bureau of Aircraft Safety Investigation classed it as a serious incident. Its final report, published by Russia's Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK), puts the main cause on the 777's high rate of descent. It adds one contributing factor on the Kyrgyz side: the A320's transponder was sending an earlier altimeter pressure setting, and neither the crew nor air traffic control noticed. The report says the check has since gone into the airline's procedures.
On 21 June, according to The Aviation Herald via AeroInside, the same aircraft, on flight KA4541 from Bishkek with 179 people on board, lined up for Lahore's main runway 36R, which was closed, instead of the open 36L. The crew went around from about 1,000 feet and landed safely 15 minutes later. We found no investigation report on it.
Lining up on a closed runway is the kind of error that crew briefings are meant to catch. Neither event caused damage or injury, but both fall within our ten-year window for serious incidents.
Technical returns
Two returns made the news. On 18 June 2022 an A320 bound from Osh to Delhi with about 200 passengers circled Osh 17 times, burning fuel, and landed back after a technical fault, according to the regional police; no one was hurt. On 18 August 2025 an A320 flying from Moscow Vnukovo to Osh turned back after a fault in one component and circled over the Moscow region for several hours before landing at Vnukovo. Russian media reported a cabin pressurisation problem; Airports of Kyrgyzstan, the state airport company, said the faulty part would take about three hours to replace, and the jet then flew on to Osh.
Each return was handled safely, which is what crews are trained to do. But they add to a pattern of faults on old aircraft, and Kyrgyz events are rarely investigated in public, so the list is probably incomplete. Serious incidents score 58.
Oversight: off the blacklist, without an outside audit
For about 20 years every airline certified in Kyrgyzstan was banned from EU airspace. The European Commission removed them all on 8 June 2026, citing stronger state oversight, and an ICAO validation mission in October 2026 ended without critical findings. The regulator has also shown it will act: it revoked Tez Jet's certificate in July 2026 after a gear failure on an MD-83 at Bishkek. Its August 2026 register lists Aero Nomad's passenger certificate as valid.
That progress is recent, though. Kyrgyzstan is not on the FAA's FAA IASAThe US FAA's check of whether a country's aviation regulator meets ICAO standards. Category 1 means it does; Category 2 means it does not.More in the glossary list, and Aero Nomad is not an IATA member and was not on IATA's IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary registry when we searched it on 28 October 2026. Oversight scores 57, the same as every other Kyrgyz airline we rate: we start from neighbouring Kazakhstan's 72, then take off 10 points for an EU ban that ended less than five years ago and 5 for the missing IOSA.
Where it flies
Moscow is the biggest foreign market: Vnukovo says Aero Nomad flew 1,600 flights and carried over 260,000 passengers there between 2023 and May 2026. EASA's bulletin for Russian airspace, valid to 31 January 2027, warns of drone attacks that close airports at short notice and of GNSS jamming. Newer routes go to Tashkent, Urumqi and Kashgar, and to Vietnam and Thailand. India and Pakistan routes have been at the mercy of their conflict: in May 2025 a Delhi–Bishkek flight was cancelled when Pakistan shut its airspace, and the airline said its aircraft could not fly the longer detour. Osh, its second base, fogs in winter. The environment scores 50.
Before you book
- On the Moscow routes, allow a spare day. Drone alerts close Vnukovo, and with three aircraft a single fault can ground a flight for a day or more.
- On holiday charters to Vietnam or Thailand, buy insurance that covers long delays. The November 2025 Phu Quoc delay lasted three days.
- If an outside audit matters to you, fly an IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary airline such as Uzbekistan Airways via Tashkent or Air Astana via Almaty.
How we scored it
The accident record (85) is the strongest factor: five years without an accident, on a small fleet. Oversight (57) reflects the recently lifted EU ban and the missing IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary, the fleet (45) is old and small, serious incidents (58) cover the Lahore line-up, a TCAS alert over Pakistan and repeated technical returns, and the environment (50) is shaped by Russian and South Asian airspace. Overall 66.
Questions people ask
Has Aero Nomad Airlines ever had a crash?
No. Aero Nomad has had no accident since it started flying in 2021, and no aircraft has been damaged beyond repair. Its record is short, though, and it has had several technical returns, including an A320 that circled over the Moscow region for hours in August 2025 before landing back at Vnukovo.
What planes does Aero Nomad fly?
Airbus A320s and one Airbus A330. Kyrgyzstan's aircraft register listed two A320s built in 1998 and an A330 built in 2000 in July 2026, an average age of about 26 years. All three flew for other airlines before they came to Kyrgyzstan.
Is Aero Nomad banned in the EU?
No longer. Every Kyrgyz airline was on the EU Air Safety ListThe European Commission's list of airlines banned or restricted from flying in EU airspace because they do not meet international safety standards.More in the glossary from 2006 until the European Commission removed them all on 8 June 2026. Aero Nomad does not fly to the EU; it would need an EASA third-country operator approval first.
Where does Aero Nomad fly?
From Bishkek and Osh to Moscow Vnukovo, Tashkent, Urumqi and Kashgar in China, and holiday routes to Vietnam and Thailand, plus domestic Bishkek–Osh flights. Regular flights from Bishkek to Phu Quoc in Vietnam start on 31 October 2026.
