Is Poppo Live safe?

Poppo Live

Poppo Live is a live-streaming and video-chat app from Singapore's Vshow that earns its money from coins spent on gifts to hosts. Turkey blocked it in February 2026, its store labels say far less than its privacy policy, coin purchases are final, and its own documents disagree on whether under-18s may use it.

How the score breaks down

The overall score is the weighted average of these factors. Scoring rules

  • Privacy30% of score

    30 out of 100, Poor

Apple's label lists only identifiers for tracking and a device ID. The September 2026 policy adds IDFA, OAID, MAC address, serial number, Wi-Fi lists and GPS location, and Google Play says voice recordings, photos and videos are shared with other companies.

  • Security30% of score

    42 out of 100, Weak

We found no reported breach and no public bug bounty on HackerOne. The policy mentions encryption only in general terms and says Vshow cannot guarantee data in transit. Face data for streamers is processed on the device, and chats are kept 120 hours.

  • Transparency and control15% of score

    45 out of 100, Weak

Accounts are deleted within 60 days of a verified request, or after 180 days without login. The policy reads like a template, naming features such as Moments and Time Capsule that the store listings never mention, and it contradicts itself on retention and minors.

  • Scams and harmful content15% of score

    30 out of 100, Poor

Coins buy gifts for hosts in live rooms, PK battles and video chat. The child policy says 18+, yet the privacy policy lets under-18s join with a guardian's consent, and Apple rates the app 16+ for frequent mature or suggestive themes.

  • Regulatory record10% of score

    60 out of 100, Fair

Turkey's telecom regulator, the BTK, blocked Poppo with eight other live and voice-chat apps by an administrative order of its president on 14 February 2026, without a published reason. We found no fine against Poppo or Vshow.

Is Poppo Live safe?

Poppo Live is a working app from a registered Singapore company, but it is built around paying strangers, and it is not a place for anyone under 18. Viewers buy coins, then spend them on animated gifts for hosts who stream, sing, chat and compete in "PK" battles. We score it 39/100, about level with SUGO (40) and Bigo Live (40). Its labels say little about what it collects, its documents contradict each other on age, and Turkey blocked it in February 2026.

The app has more than 10 million downloads on Google Play and was ranked #169 in Social Networking on the US App Store in October 2026. Its publisher is Vshow Pte. Ltd., and the listings support more than 30 languages, from Urdu and Bengali to Swahili and Turkish, which tells you where most users are.

What Poppo knows about you

Apple's privacy label is one of the shortest we have seen: identifiers that may be used to track you across other companies' apps, and a device ID linked to you for third-party advertising.

The privacy policy, last updated in September 2026, lists far more. It collects location from GPS, Wi-Fi, compass and accelerometer data; device identifiers including Apple's IDFA, Android ID, OAID, MAC address and serial number; the names of nearby Wi-Fi networks, router IDs and mobile base stations; your search history; and links to Facebook, X or Line accounts. It may share data with group companies for "advertising, analytics" and other purposes. Google Play's form says the app shares voice recordings, photos, videos, approximate location and device IDs with other companies, though for app functions and analytics.

Two parts of the policy are better than usual. Face data from streamers is checked on the device for banned content and, Poppo says, deleted once processing ends. Chats between users are kept for 120 hours. But the text also describes "Moments", "Time Capsule", "Official Accounts" and "floating bottles", features that the store listings never mention. It reads like a template from another messaging app. In one place it keeps login data for 90 days, in another for 3 months. Since the policy discloses much more than the label, we score privacy on the policy.

Coins, gifts and hosts

The App Store sells coin packs from 2,100 coins for $0.29 up to 210,000 coins for $29.99. Coins buy gifts, entrance effects that announce you when you join a room, and other items. The recharge agreement, dated January 2026, is blunt: "There is no refund available after any purchase." Coins cannot be exchanged for money, and coins frozen after a ban are not refunded.

The website also has an "Agent Cooperation" section for agents who work with hosts. Hosts earn from the gifts they receive, so the app rewards anyone who can keep viewers spending. Watch for the usual patterns in gift-based apps: a host who asks for a specific gift to "win" a PK battle, a "manager" who promises cheap coins outside the app, and anyone who asks to move the chat to WhatsApp or Telegram.

Age rules that do not agree

Poppo's No Child Endangerment Policy says plainly: "You must be at least 18 years old to use POPPO LIVE." Its privacy policy says something different: children under 18 may not use the app "without first obtaining the consent of the parent / Guardian." The recharge agreement then has a whole section on "Recharge Terms for Minors". Apple rates the app 16+, citing frequent profanity or crude humour and frequent mature or suggestive themes; Google Play rates it Mature 17+.

The listings say a safety team works 24/7, and the child-safety policy lists bans on grooming, sextortion and sexual content involving minors, with reports through the in-app Help page or [email protected]. Poppo publishes no transparency report, so there are no figures on removed accounts, and the policy mentions reports to "local authorities", not to child-safety hotlines such as NCMEC.

The Turkey block

On 14 February 2026 Turkey's telecom regulator, the BTK, blocked Poppo along with Bigo, MICO, SUGO, MIGO, SoulChill, LiveMe, Cheero and LopMe, by an administrative order of its president. No official reason was given. The Turkish tech site ShiftDelete.Net wrote that the apps had often been in the news over inappropriate content and safety concerns. We found no fine against Poppo or Vshow anywhere.

How to use Poppo Live more safely

  1. Set a spending limit with Apple or Google before you buy coins, and never buy coins from an agent or website outside the app.
  2. Refuse the tracking request on iPhone and give the app approximate location, or none.
  3. Do not turn on "people nearby" or share your location in chats.
  4. Ignore any host or agent who asks you to pay outside Poppo or to move to another messaging app.
  5. If a child has used the app, ask the app store for a refund and email [email protected] to delete the account.

How we scored it

Regulatory record (60) is the strongest factor, and it reflects one national block without a fine rather than a clean record. Privacy (30) ties for the weakest, because a short label hides a policy that collects broad device and network identifiers. Scams and harmful content (30), the other weakest factor, reflects a gift economy with final sales and age rules that contradict each other. Questions people ask

Is Poppo Live safe for teenagers?

No. Poppo's child-safety policy says you must be at least 18, but its privacy policy lets under-18s use the app with a guardian's consent, and Apple rates it only 16+. Strangers can message users, invite them into video rooms and ask for gifts. Keep it off a teenager's phone.

Is Poppo Live blocked in Turkey?

Yes. The BTK blocked Poppo on 14 February 2026 together with Bigo, MICO, SUGO, LiveMe and four other live-streaming and voice-chat apps, by an administrative order of its president. No official reason was published. Check the BTK's site lookup for the current status.

Can I get a refund for Poppo coins?

Not from Poppo. Its recharge agreement says there is "no refund available after any purchase", coins cannot be turned back into money, and coins frozen after a ban are not refunded either. For accidental or child purchases, ask Apple or Google for a refund instead.

Who owns Poppo Live?

The app is published by Vshow Pte. Ltd., a Singapore company with an office on Anson Road, which also runs the v.show website. Its privacy policy says Poppo's servers are in Singapore, with support and engineering teams elsewhere in the world able to access user data.

How do Poppo hosts make money?

Viewers buy coins in the app and spend them on virtual gifts and entrance effects for hosts during live streams, PK battles and party rooms. Poppo's website also has an "Agent Cooperation" section for agents who work with hosts. Hosts earn from what viewers spend, so viewers are pushed to keep sending gifts.
