Is Binance Wallet safe?

Binance Wallet

Binance Wallet, formerly the Binance Web3 Wallet, is a seedless MPC wallet inside the Binance app. Binance holds one of three key shares and cannot move funds alone, and a private-key export exists, but the code is closed, nothing is audited in public and the wallet is tied to your verified Binance identity.

How the score breaks down

The overall score is the weighted average of these factors. Scoring rules

  • Security record30% of score

    78 out of 100, Good

We found no loss traced to Binance Wallet's code, backend or releases since it launched as the Binance Web3 Wallet in late 2023. With under 3 years of wide use, our rubric caps this factor at 80. Trust Wallet's 2025 extension compromise is a separate product.

Wallet services are provided by Binance Barbados Limited, which Binance says is not supervised by any regulator. A verified Binance account is required, so your wallet addresses are tied to your identity. Binance's 2023 US guilty plea is scored on the exchange page.

Is Binance Wallet safe?

It has no known hack, and Binance cannot move your funds on its own. But it asks you to trust a lot you cannot see. Binance Wallet is a seedless wallet inside the Binance app that splits your key into three shares, one of them held by Binance. The code is closed, we found no public audit, and you need a verified Binance account to use it. We score it 60/100, a C, with low confidence because so little is published.

The product started in late 2023 as the Binance Web3 Wallet and is now simply Binance Wallet. It is separate from the Binance exchange, which holds customer coins and carries Binance's 2023 US guilty plea, and from Trust Wallet, the other Binance-owned wallet, which uses a normal Seed phraseA list of 12 to 24 words that can restore a crypto wallet and all its funds. Anyone who has it controls the wallet.More in the glossary.

How Binance Wallet splits your key

When you create the wallet, MPC walletA crypto wallet that splits the private key into several shares held in different places, so no single device or company holds the whole key.More in the glossary (MPC) generates three key shares in different places. One stays on your phone. One goes to your iCloud or Google Drive, encrypted with a recovery password only you know, or with Face ID if you use Binance's Quick Back-up. Binance keeps the third. Any two can sign.

That gives a sensible spread of risk. A thief with your phone alone cannot sign, and neither can Binance. If you lose the phone, your cloud share plus Binance's share restore the wallet on a new device. If you forget the recovery password and lose the phone, Binance says it cannot help.

The weak point is the exit. Since April 2025 Binance offers "Convert to Private Key Wallets", which turns the keyless wallet into ordinary private-key wallets, one per network, that you can import elsewhere. It runs inside the Binance app and needs identity verification, it cannot be reversed, and you get raw private keys rather than a Seed phraseA list of 12 to 24 words that can restore a crypto wallet and all its funds. Anyone who has it controls the wallet.More in the glossary. We found no published way to rebuild the key from your two shares without its app. That is why key management scores 60: better than Simple (55), where the vendor share is needed for every signature and the export terms are vaguer, but well below seed phrase wallets.

Can you check the code?

No. The app is closed source, and we found no published third-party audit of the wallet or of the MPC walletA crypto wallet that splits the private key into several shares held in different places, so no single device or company holds the whole key.More in the glossary protocol it uses. Binance runs a public bug bounty on Bugcrowd for its products, paid in BNB, but its brief does not say clearly how the wallet is covered. For a wallet whose security rests on cryptography that runs partly on Binance's servers, that is thin. Transparency scores 35.

Does Binance Wallet warn you about scams?

Some. Since July 2025 an Audit tab on token pages runs CertiK's Skynet Token Scan, which checks for malicious code, centralised control and high-risk deployer wallets. That helps with scam tokens. Binance publishes far less about what the wallet does when a dApp asks you to sign an approval or a permit, the moment DrainerA malicious website or script that tricks a crypto user into signing a transaction or approval that lets attackers empty the wallet.More in the glossary actually strike. We found no clear documentation of transaction simulation or address-poisoning filters, so scam protection scores 62, well below OKX Wallet and Trust Wallet, both at 82 or above.

What you give up on privacy

Self-custodyHolding crypto in a wallet where you alone control the private keys, rather than leaving it with an exchange or another company.More in the glossary usually means no identity check. Not here: you must be a verified Binance user to create the wallet, so Binance can link your on-chain addresses to your identity documents. The wallet services are provided by Binance Barbados Limited, and Binance's own disclaimer says they are not supervised by any regulator. We found no data leak tied to the wallet. Company record scores 55.

How to use Binance Wallet safely

  1. Back up the cloud share and store the recovery password offline. Without both the phone and that password, nobody can restore the wallet.
  2. Check the backup file exists in iCloud or Google Drive, and never delete files labelled "Binance".
  3. Learn how "Convert to Private Key Wallets" works before you need it, and store any exported keys offline.
  4. Use the Audit tab before buying unknown tokens, but read every approval yourself.
  5. For savings, use a Hardware walletA small dedicated device that stores crypto private keys offline and signs transactions inside the device, so the keys never touch your computer.More in the glossary such as Trezor instead of a phone wallet linked to an exchange account.

How we scored it

Security record (78) is the best factor: no loss found, though the wallet is under three years old and the rubric caps it at 80. Transparency (35) is the weakest, because neither the app nor the MPC walletA crypto wallet that splits the private key into several shares held in different places, so no single device or company holds the whole key.More in the glossary code is open or publicly audited. Key management (60) reflects a sound split of shares but an exit that runs through Binance's app and identity check.
