Is TUI fly Belgium safe?
TUI fly Belgium
TUI fly Belgium, the former Jetairfly, has never had a fatal accident or lost an aircraft. Its one damaging accident was a hard landing and Tail strikeWhen the tail of an aircraft touches the runway during take-off or landing, usually because the nose was raised too far or too early.More in the glossary at Marrakech in 2018, blamed on the crew. It flies Boeing 737s and Embraer E195-E2s under Belgian and EASA oversight, without IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary.

People may or may not be hurt.More in the glossary since flights began in 2004. On 2 May 2018 a 737-800 landed hard at Marrakech, bounced and struck its tail; Morocco's investigators blamed an unstable approach and late action by the training captain (ASN 319662). 78 out of 100, Goodch-aviation counts about 20 aircraft in 2026: older Boeing 737-800s, newer 737-8s and three Embraer E195-E2s delivered from May 2023. The last 737-700 left in December 2025 and the last 787 in 2026. TUI publishes no Belgian fleet age.
Serious incidents15% of score
78 out of 100, GoodThe Dutch Safety Board classed a 2020 unreliable-airspeed return to Amsterdam as a serious incident; a static port was still covered with plastic and tape from storage. A 737 struck its tail on take-off at Amsterdam in 2023, and a 737-700's nose gear collapsed at a Brussels gate in 2025.
Operating environment10% of score
82 out of 100, GoodFlights from Brussels, Ostend, Antwerp and Lille (Liège ended in January 2026), plus bases in Casablanca and Marrakech, to the Mediterranean, Morocco, Egypt's Red Sea coast, Turkey, the Canaries and Cape Verde. Some North African airports have less equipment and Red Sea routes pass near conflict-zone bulletin areas.
Is TUI fly Belgium safe?
Yes. TUI fly Belgium has never had a fatal accident or lost an aircraft since it began flying in 2004, and it works under Belgian oversight within the EU's EASA system. We score it 85, the same as its British sister TUI Airways and just below Brussels Airlines.
The points it loses come from two things. The first is a 2018 hard landing at Marrakech that investigators blamed on the crew. The second is that, like most TUI airlines, it has no IOSAThe IATA Operational Safety Audit, an international audit of an airline's safety management and operations. Every IATA member must pass it.More in the glossary, the industry's voluntary safety audit.
Which TUI airline is this?
This page covers TUI Airlines Belgium NV, based in Ostend and flying from Brussels with the code TB. It started as TUI Airlines Belgium, flew as Jetairfly from 2005 and took the TUI fly name in October 2016. In 2012 it absorbed Jet4you, TUI's Moroccan low-cost airline, which is why it still has bases in Casablanca and Marrakech. It is not a successor to Sobelair, the Belgian charter airline that stopped flying in 2004.
TUI Group runs four other airlines, each on its own certificate: TUIfly in Germany, TUI Airways in Britain, TUI fly Netherlands and TUIfly Nordic in Sweden. The Belgian and Dutch airlines often swap aircraft. When a Belgian 737 flies a Dutch OR flight, the Belgian certificate and crew apply, so we count those events here.
TUI fly Belgium's accident record
The only accident that damaged an aircraft came on 2 May 2018, on a flight from Brest to Marrakech. The first officer was flying under supervision with about 500 hours on the 737. Near the ground the approach fell apart: the aircraft dipped below the glide path, then rose above it, then came down fast with the thrust nearly at idle. The training captain chose not to take over or go around. The 737 landed hard, bounced, and as the captain took control, its tail struck the runway.
Nobody among the 188 people on board was hurt, and the aircraft was repaired. Morocco's investigators named the unstable approach, the captain's late reaction and his decision to continue, and listed his limited experience as an instructor as a contributing factor.
That is the whole list. The Aviation Safety Network data hold no other damaging accident for TUI fly Belgium or Jetairfly.
Which incidents should passengers know about?
Since 2016, most events were technical faults that crews handled by the book. A few stand out:
- Amsterdam, October 2020. A Belgian 737-800 flying a Dutch TUI flight to Funchal showed different speeds and altitudes on the two pilots' instruments and returned to Amsterdam. It had just come out of pandemic storage. The Dutch Safety Board classed the event as a serious incident and traced it to how the static ports, which feed the airspeed and altitude instruments, were covered during storage: with placards, clear plastic and tape that were hard to see, not the covers the maintenance manual calls for. One cover was still in place when the aircraft flew.
- Amsterdam, February 2023. The same 737 that struck its tail at Marrakech touched the runway with its tail on take-off for Las Palmas and returned. The Dutch Safety Board sent investigators; we have not found a published finding.
- Brussels, August 2024. A cargo fire warning came on during approach from Heraklion. The crew landed and evacuated the 737 by slides. Firefighters found no fire, and nobody was hurt.
- Brussels, January 2025. The nose gear of a 737-700 collapsed at the gate after the passengers had left. Nobody was on board, and the airline said early checks showed no technical or human error.
A 737-8 also returned to Boeing Field during its delivery flight in October 2021 after flight control problems, before it carried any passengers.
How old is the TUI fly Belgium fleet?
Mixed. ch-aviation counts about 20 aircraft in 2026: older Boeing 737-800s, newer 737-8s and three Embraer E195-E2s, the first of which arrived in May 2023. The last 737-700 left in December 2025.
The long-haul fleet is gone. TUI fly Belgium flew its last Boeing 787 routes to Cancún and Punta Cana in late October 2025, and in May 2026 TUI ended widebody flying on the Belgian certificate. TUI does not publish a fleet age for the Belgian airline.
Tips for TUI fly Belgium passengers
- Check the operator, not the brand. A TUI booking from Belgium is usually TUI fly Belgium, but in summer TUI also hires aircraft with crews from other airlines. The booking names the operating airline, and its record is the one that counts.
- Plan for the Antwerp change. TUI fly Belgium will close its Antwerp base on 25 March 2027 and focus on Brussels and Ostend. It already left Liège in January 2026. Check your departure airport if you booked for spring 2027.
- Follow the crew in an evacuation. In the 2024 Brussels slide evacuation nobody was hurt, though some passengers said it caused panic. Leave your bags, listen to the crew and move away from the aircraft.
How we scored it

Incidents (78) take points for the storage error and the 2023 Tail strikeWhen the tail of an aircraft touches the runway during take-off or landing, usually because the nose was raised too far or too early.More in the glossary. The network scores 82, a little below Transavia because of more North African and Red Sea flying.
