Is DramaWave safe?
DramaWave
DramaWave, from Kunlun Tech's Singapore arm Skywork AI, is a real app with no known breach, but Apple rates it 13+ while its own terms set the age at 18. Weekly VIP plans run to $19.99, payments are final, and the UK advertising regulator upheld a complaint against one of its ads in 2026.

How the score breaks down
The overall score is the weighted average of these factors. Scoring rules
Privacy30% of score
40 out of 100, WeakApple's label lists identifiers as used to track you, but Google Play says nothing is shared with other companies. The June 2026 policy shares device IDs and usage with Firebase, AppsFlyer and advertisers, may read the clipboard for marketing, and describes AI face features that process facial geometry.
Security30% of score
50 out of 100, WeakNo breach of DramaWave user data was found. The policy says user data is encrypted at rest and in transit with TLS 1.2 and that systems are tested for vulnerabilities. Payments run through Apple or Google; we found no two-step login for users or bug bounty.
Transparency and control15% of score
41 out of 100, WeakAccount deletion is built into the app (Profile, Setting, Delete account), and the policy and terms are dated. Payments are final and non-refundable except where law requires, disputes go to arbitration in Singapore with a class-action waiver, and the two store labels contradict the policy.
Scams and harmful content15% of score
42 out of 100, WeakApple rates DramaWave 13+ but its terms say the service is not for under-18s without a parent's consent. Apple lists user-generated content and social features (on-screen comments). In February 2026 the UK ad regulator upheld a complaint about a DramaWave ad showing sexual acts and a bloodied woman.
Regulatory record10% of score
84 out of 100, GoodThe UK Advertising Standards Authority, a self-regulatory body, upheld a complaint on both points it investigated against a DramaWave ad on 18 February 2026 and banned it in that form; there was no fine. We found no privacy or consumer-protection fine or order.
Is DramaWave safe?
DramaWave works as advertised and we found no breach, but it pairs the usual short-drama paywall with an age rating that contradicts its own terms and an advertising record the UK regulator has already ruled on. We score it 48/100, level with ShortMax (48) and below ReelShort (51) and GoodShort (52).
It is also one of the most popular apps in the genre. DramaWave was No. 7 in Apple's US entertainment chart when we checked in October 2026, with 4.9 stars from about 195,000 ratings, and Google Play counts more than 100 million downloads.
Who is behind DramaWave
The App Store seller and data controller is Skywork AI Pte. Ltd., at an address in Singapore's Science Park. The same company sells the StarMaker karaoke app, two more short-drama apps called FreeReels and HotDrama, and several games. Kunlun Tech lists DramaWave among its products on its own website, next to its SkyReels and Mureka AI apps. Kunlun is the Chinese internet group that owns most of Opera and once owned Grindr.
The privacy policy says DramaWave runs local servers in several countries and that data may be transferred to jurisdictions where its affiliates are based, which may offer weaker protection than your own. It does not name those countries. DramaWave's support contact on the App Store is a Gmail address, which makes fake "support" emails harder to spot.
What DramaWave costs
The US App Store lists seven weekly VIP products, at $7.99, $9.99 and, most often, $19.99, plus a monthly VIP plan at $36.99 and one-off offers at $6.99 and $9.99. Coins unlock single episodes. The terms say subscriptions renew automatically for weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly periods until you cancel, and that a free trial turns into a paid plan unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
At $19.99 a week, a plan nobody cancels costs about $1,040 a year. The terms call all payments "final and non-refundable" except where the law requires a refund, send App Store and Google Play refund requests to the stores, and add a separate no-refund policy for plans bought on the website or through Kakao Pay. Disputes go to the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, and users waive class actions.
What DramaWave collects
The two store labels disagree. Apple's says identifiers are used to track you across other companies' apps and websites, and that contact details and identifiers are linked to you. Google Play's section says DramaWave shares no data with other companies.
The privacy policy, effective 25 June 2026, describes more than either label. DramaWave may share device identifiers and usage data with Firebase and AppsFlyer, share information with advertisers and measurement firms to show personalised ads, and let ad networks serve ads inside the app with their own tracking tools. With your permission it reads the clipboard when you copy or paste in the app, and uses what it finds "to enable marketing and promotions". It may also ask for calendar access to set reminders, including for subscription renewals.
The policy also covers AI features, including face generation and face replacement, for which DramaWave may process "facial features, facial geometry, face landmarks, face embeddings" from uploaded photos. It says these features are closed to under-18s and that face data can be deleted. We did not see them advertised on the US App Store listing. On the security side, the policy says user data is encrypted at rest and in transit with TLS 1.2 and that systems are tested for vulnerabilities, which is more detail than most rivals give.
Is DramaWave OK for teenagers?
Not according to DramaWave. Its terms say the service "is not for persons under the age of 18" and that younger users need a parent's consent, and the privacy policy says it is "not directed to any minors under the age of 18". Apple still rates the app 13+, listing infrequent mature or suggestive themes, realistic violence, profanity and horror. Google Play rates it Teen. Unlike most rivals, DramaWave also shows other viewers' comments on screen during playback, and Apple lists user-generated content and social media features.
Its advertising has already drawn a ruling. On 18 February 2026 the UK Advertising Standards Authority upheld a complaint about a DramaWave video ad seen in the Vinted marketplace app in November 2025. The ad showed a man and a woman in sexual acts, with blood splattered across the woman's face, under the line "My girlfriend is having an affair with my father". The ASA found it likely to cause serious offence and said it "was not suitable to be published in any app". DramaWave said the ad went out through "a reviewing oversight", withdrew it and added extra checks for UK ads. The ASA is a self-regulatory body and issued no fine.
How to watch DramaWave more safely
- Check whether a plan is weekly or monthly on the purchase screen, and cancel in your store settings a day before renewal.
- Refuse clipboard and calendar access when the app asks. Neither is needed to watch.
- Tap "Ask App Not to Track" on an iPhone, and reset the advertising ID on Android.
- Do not upload your face to any AI feature unless you accept that DramaWave stores facial data in countries its policy does not name.
- On a child's phone, use Ask to Buy or Family Link purchase approval, since the 13+ and Teen ratings will not block the app.
- Delete the account under Profile, Setting, Delete account when you stop, after cancelling the store plan.
How we scored it
Regulatory record (84) is DramaWave's strongest factor: no privacy or consumer fine, but an upheld advertising ruling that names the app keeps it below rivals with a clean record. Privacy (40) is the weakest, because the policy shares data with ad and analytics partners, reads the clipboard and covers facial data, while Google Play says nothing is shared. Scams and harmful content (42) reflects a 13+ rating for an app its own terms reserve for adults. For the full genre, see ReelShort and FlexTV.
Questions people ask
Is DramaWave legit?
Yes. DramaWave is a real app from Skywork AI Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, with more than 100 million Google Play downloads, and the episodes you pay for do play. The complaints are about price and ads. Weekly VIP plans cost up to $19.99 on the US App Store and renew until you cancel.
Who owns DramaWave?
The seller is Skywork AI Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, which also sells the StarMaker karaoke app and the FreeReels and HotDrama short-drama apps. Kunlun Tech lists DramaWave among its own products. Kunlun is a Chinese internet company that also owns the Opera browser.
How do I cancel DramaWave VIP?
Cancel in the App Store or Google Play subscription settings at least 24 hours before the period ends, as DramaWave's terms describe. Deleting the app does not stop billing. Plans bought on DramaWave's website or through Kakao Pay fall under a separate refund and cancellation policy in the terms.
Can I get a refund from DramaWave?
DramaWave's terms say payments are final and non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise, and that store refunds must be requested from Apple or Google directly. Ask the store from your purchase history soon after the charge.
Is DramaWave OK for kids?
No. Apple rates it 13+, but DramaWave's own terms say the service is not for anyone under 18 without a parent's consent, and its privacy policy says it is not directed at under-18s. The app has on-screen comments from other viewers, and one of its ads was banned in the UK for sexual content.
