Is GoodShort safe?
GoodShort
GoodShort, from the Singapore publisher of GoodNovel, tracks less than its big rivals on Apple's label and lets you delete your account in the app. It still sells weekly VIP plans up to $19.99 and coins that cannot be refunded, and its publisher's GoodNovel ads drew a UK advertising ruling in 2026.

How the score breaks down
The overall score is the weighted average of these factors. Scoring rules
Privacy30% of score
47 out of 100, WeakApple's label lists only identifiers as used to track you and a device ID as linked to you. The policy is broader, describing ad networks and partner data used for personalised ads, and Google Play lists installed apps and purchase history among the data collected.
Security30% of score
50 out of 100, WeakNo breach of GoodShort user data was found and Google Play says data is encrypted in transit. Payments go through Apple or Google. The policy promises only "reasonable and appropriate" measures, and we found no two-step login or bug bounty.
Transparency and control15% of score
42 out of 100, WeakThe privacy policy describes in-app tools to delete watch history, comments and the account, with account deletion within 15 days. Payments and coins are non-refundable under the terms, disputes go to arbitration in Singapore, and the English policy carries no date.
Scams and harmful content15% of score
50 out of 100, WeakApple rates GoodShort 13+ for infrequent mature themes and fantasy violence, close to the terms' minimum age of 12. Comments are the only user content. The publisher's GoodNovel ad was found by the UK ad regulator in July 2026 to condone violence and coercive behaviour.
Regulatory record10% of score
88 out of 100, ExcellentNo privacy or consumer-protection fine or order names GoodShort. The UK Advertising Standards Authority upheld a complaint against the operator's GoodNovel app in July 2026; it does not name GoodShort and carries no fine, so it is context only.
Is GoodShort safe?
GoodShort is the least intrusive of the big short-drama apps we have checked, though it is still built to sell coins and weekly plans. We score it 52/100, a point above ReelShort (51) and ahead of NetShort (47) and StoryReel (48). What lifts it is a short Apple privacy label, in-app account deletion and age ratings that roughly match its own terms. What holds it back is the usual billing model and a publisher with a fresh UK advertising ruling against another of its apps.
GoodShort has been on the US App Store since June 2023. When we checked in October 2026 it had 4.9 stars from about 535,000 ratings and sat at No. 35 in entertainment, and Google Play counted more than 50 million downloads.
Who is behind GoodShort
The app is published by Singapore New Reading Technology Pte. Ltd., which also runs GoodNovel, MegaNovel, BueNovela, Shortoo and the GoodFM audio app. GoodShort grew out of that reading business: many of its series are adaptations of web novels. The company's documents give several Singapore addresses, one in the privacy policy, another for its privacy office and a third in a UK advertising ruling.
That ruling matters for parents. On 1 July 2026 the UK Advertising Standards Authority upheld a complaint against an in-game GoodNovel ad that showed a woman restrained on the floor beside text describing slaps, confinement and "another week with no food". The regulator said the ad condoned violence and coercive behaviour and reinforced a harmful gender stereotype. The game developer that showed it said it had seen "a similar pattern" across GoodNovel's campaigns and blocked the advertiser from all its apps. The ruling names GoodNovel, not GoodShort, but the two apps share a publisher and a stock of stories.
What GoodShort costs
GoodShort sells coins at about a cent each, from 500 for $4.99 to 2,500 for $24.99, and weekly VIP plans at $5.99, $9.99 and $19.99. The US listing shows several weekly products under different names, including "Weekly subscription" and "WeekIy Membership" (spelled with a capital I), all at $19.99. The terms also allow monthly and yearly plans.
The rules on money are strict. Payments are non-refundable "except as specifically provided" in the terms, there are no partial refunds for a cancelled period, and coins "cannot be refunded or exchanged for fiat currency of any kind". GoodShort may also close an account that breaks its rules "without refunding the fees you have paid". Disputes go to binding arbitration at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
What GoodShort collects
On Apple's label, GoodShort is the lightest of the large short-drama apps. Identifiers are used to track you across other companies' apps, a device ID is linked to you for app functions, and crash and performance data are collected without being linked. The listing also links to a page for managing privacy choices.
The privacy policy and Google Play describe more. The policy says GoodShort uses data from business partners and third parties to personalise ads, works with ad servers and ad networks, and may transfer data across borders, including to the United States, and share it with companies in its corporate group. It says GoodShort "will never sell any of your data". Google Play lists app interactions collected for advertising, an optional installed-apps list for personalisation, and purchase history, device IDs and user IDs shared for analytics. Because the policy discloses more than the Apple label, we scored privacy on the policy.
The policy's English text has no date. A Japanese version on the same page is dated 19 December 2022.
Deleting your data
This is where GoodShort does better than most rivals. The policy describes buttons to remove series from My List and to delete comments, and an account deletion option that it says must be completed within 15 days. Google Play confirms that you can request deletion. Cancel any store subscription first, because deleting the account does not stop Apple or Google billing.
HotShort, the free alternative
HotShort-Dramas&Reels, from Naughty Corner Music Limited, works on a different model. It launched in August 2026, promises that all episodes are free with "no subscription or recharge required", and needs no login. It pays its way with ads, and an update added gems earned by watching rewarded ads. Apple rates it 13+. Its label lists identifiers and usage data as used to track you. Its privacy policy is a generic template that names "HotShort" as the company and Hong Kong as its country. The App Store rating was 2.9 stars from 31 ratings in October 2026, and recent reviews call it a scam; those are user claims we could not test. It has no page of its own and no separate score.
How to use GoodShort more safely
- Buy a small coin pack first and check the coin price per episode against the number of episodes before you buy more.
- If you take a weekly VIP plan, cancel it in your store settings straight away and use the week you paid for.
- Tap "Ask App Not to Track" on an iPhone, and reset your advertising ID on Android.
- Delete the account in the app when you stop, after cancelling the store subscription.
- For a child under 13, use Screen Time or Family Link age limits, which the 13+ and Teen ratings will trigger.
How we scored it
Regulatory record (88) is GoodShort's strongest factor: no fine or order names the app, and the GoodNovel ruling is context only. Transparency and control (42) is the weakest, held up by in-app deletion but pulled down by non-refundable payments, Singapore arbitration and an undated policy. Privacy (47) follows the policy rather than the lighter Apple label.
Questions people ask
Is GoodShort legit?
Yes. GoodShort is a real app from Singapore New Reading Technology, the company behind the GoodNovel reading app, with more than 50 million Google Play downloads. The episodes you unlock play as promised. Complaints are about the cost of coins and weekly VIP plans, not fraud.
How much do GoodShort coins cost?
On the US App Store, coins cost about one cent each, from 500 coins for $4.99 to 2,500 coins for $24.99. Weekly VIP plans are listed at $5.99, $9.99 and $19.99. The terms say coins cannot be refunded or exchanged for money.
How do I delete my GoodShort account?
GoodShort's privacy policy says the app has tools to delete items from My List, remove comments and delete the account, and that account deletion is completed within 15 days of the request. You can also ask through customer service in the app. Cancel any VIP plan in your Apple or Google account first.
Can I get a refund from GoodShort?
The terms say payments are non-refundable except where the terms provide otherwise, there are no partial refunds for a cancelled week, and coins are never refunded. If you paid through Apple or Google, request a refund from the store, which applies its own rules.
Is GoodShort OK for kids?
Not for younger children. Apple rates it 13+ for infrequent mature or suggestive themes and fantasy violence, Google Play rates it Teen, and the terms set a minimum age of 12. Many stories involve billionaires, revenge and romance, and the app has no kids mode.
